Introducing our New Patron, Mr Vyacheslav Fetisov June 2005

A reception was hosted by the Minister and Deputy Head of Mission of the British Embassy, Mr and Mrs Stephen Wordsworth in Moscow on the 30 June to welcome Partners in Hope new Honorary Patron Mr Vyacheslav Fetisov, Director of the Federal Agency for Physical Culture and Sport. During the evening an Auction was held to raise funds for the Big and the Small Campaign. Auction Lots included a weekend donated by  Meridien Moscow Country Club,  A trip for two to London donated by British Airways and UIP, a luxury driving experience weekend donated by Land Rover,  4 tickets to a night at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, donated by GlaxoSmithKline and a weekend for two donated by the Marriott Grand Hotel, Moscow.  The auction raised over $10,000.

Partners in Hope staff and trustees would like to thank everyone who came to the event and supported our fundraising despite the appalling weather conditions that evening and a special thank you to White & Case who sponsored the Jazz Quartet.

Facts
In Russia today there are an estimated
1.6 million children in the Russian Federation with special needs and in need of specially adapted education
20% of these are receiving no access to education
100,000(17%) living in residential care
Of the 500 orphans graduating each year from institutions in Moscow only 3% will have the confidence to take on a job, most will be vulnerable to criminal activity which continues the cycle of no hope.
