Medics and Parents Together

This voluntary group of doctors and parents has many similarities with UK voluntary groups that support children's hospitals. However the conditions and facilities in the paediatric oncology unit at Blokhin are much poorer than in western hospitals. Medics and Parents Together aims to help improve the quality of care in Moscow's foremost hospital for child oncology and haematology. They raise money for modern medical equipment, give grants to families to cover the cost of drugs and travel, support families during the stress of cancer treatment and run a rehabilitation programme for children in recovery to help them cope with everyday life.

Over the next few year Medics and Parents Together aims to:

  • purchase blood analysis equipment to improve the early detection of cancer
  • buy anti-nausea drugs for children undergoing chemotherapy
  • improve the children's cancer ward
  • set-up a self-help club to support families of children with cancer.

Partners in Hope supports this project because

it provides essential relief to families under great pressure, and all donations are well-managed and wisely spent.

We need your help

Can you help desperately sick children and their families? We need:
  • a three-year commitment of financial support for one or more elements of the project
  • funds to cover staff salaries and admin costs
  • a company to adopt the project as their main charity. Staff could raise money for essential equipment and redecoration of the cancer ward through special events or payroll-giving.

Sunny Day Party

In November 2003 Medics and Parents Together held a 'Sunny Day Party' for 150 children who have survived cancer. A huge success, the party included entertainments, games and a gift for every child; there were beaming smiles all round!
